Eternal security is one of the more polarizing topics among Christians. The concept is contrary to our personal experiences and most of what we have been taught by our religions.
So what does the Bible really say on the subject? Well, the truth is that the Bible clearly teaches that the born again Christian does have eternal security and this article will provide clarity on the subject based on Gods word.
First, we need to layout some ground rules for studying and understanding the Bible:
The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and therefore cannot contradict itself. The clearest passages on a subject matter should be used as a foundation for studying all other passages that might seem obscure or contradictory. Scripture should be interpreted literally, historically, grammatically, placed in proper context with surrounding versus and normally in its plain ordinary sense. We should also endeavor to remove preconcieved notions on a subject and simply focus on exactly what the Bible says based on all of the above.
(For a complete information see the article "How To Study And Understand The Bible")
Now, let's get into our study.
First we will take a look at the clearest passages contained within the Bible concerning Eternal Security. These passages will be not be taken out of context and their interpretation will be quite obvious.
John 6:28-29 - Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
